Tinubu Scores Big As EU Removes Nigeria From Money Laundering Watchlist.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday welcomed the European Union’s decision to remove Nigeria from its list of “high-risk third-country jurisdictions” for money laundering and terrorism financing.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The delisting, which also affected South Africa, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique, and Tanzania, was described by the party as an endorsement of Nigeria’s reform trajectory and a clear affirmation that the country is moving steadily in the right direction.

Seye Oladejo, spokesman for the Lagos APC, said the development is deliberate and reflects Nigeria’s sustained improvements in financial governance.

In a statement, Oladejo said: “This delisting is not accidental. It reflects strengthened regulatory oversight, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and a renewed commitment to transparency and compliance with global standards. It validates the reforms undertaken by the Federal Government to tighten safeguards, improve enforcement, and align Nigeria with international best practices.”

He added that beyond symbolism, the implications are significant: “Nigeria’s removal from the high-risk list restores confidence among international investors, eases cross-border transactions, reduces compliance burdens for businesses, and enhances access to global financial systems. It sends a clear signal that Nigeria is open for business—credibly, responsibly, and competitively.”

Oladejo also noted that the development challenges opposition narratives: “For the opposition, this is inconvenient. It punctures the long-running narrative of demarketing Nigeria abroad and exposes the hollowness of incessant predictions of doom. While some continue to talk the country down, independent international verification tells a story of progress, discipline, and reform.”

The Lagos APC commended the Federal Government for its focus and urged Nigerians to take pride in the achievement. “Governance is a marathon, not a sprint, but each credible validation strengthens confidence and accelerates momentum. Nigeria’s global standing is improving not because of rhetoric, but because of measurable actions and outcomes. We call on all stakeholders to support this progress, deepen reforms, and reject the politics of pessimism. The message from Europe is clear: Nigeria is regaining trust, credibility, and respect on the world stage,” he concluded.

  • Reforms Yielding Results: He credited ongoing bank recapitalisation and financial reforms for ending the era where banks could suddenly collapse and cause depositors to lose their savings.

Ultimately, the Senate President maintained that a combination of proactive security operations, economic reforms, and civic cooperation will drive Nigeria’s path toward lasting recovery and national development.
