The aircraft, carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members, reportedly encountered the issue while flying within Nigerian airspace, prompting the crew to raise distress alerts and activate emergency procedures.
Emergency responders were immediately placed on high alert after the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received the distress signal through its emergency communication channels. The agency swiftly activated the state’s emergency response plan to manage the situation.
Upon arrival at the airport, emergency teams confirmed that the aircraft had already executed a forced landing due to the technical problem. Preliminary findings indicated that the incident was caused by mechanical issues affecting the aircraft mid-air.
LASEMA commended the pilot for demonstrating professionalism and skill in safely landing the aircraft, with emergency personnel positioned along the runway as a precaution.
After touchdown, the aircraft underwent safety checks by the pilot and engineering crew before it was moved to the apron for further inspection and repairs. All passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries or casualties were recorded.
Authorities also confirmed that there was no major damage to the aircraft. Recovery operations were completed successfully, and the rescue exercise was formally concluded.
Eyewitnesses at the airport described moments of tension as emergency responders lined the runway while passengers prepared for the unexpected landing.
