Kano Governor Moves Closer To APC, Meeting With Tinubu Canceled.
Kano State Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf has engaged in a series of meetings with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the state amid plans for a potential defection to the ruling party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The governor’s planned meeting with President Bola Tinubu in France was unexpectedly canceled. While some sources attributed the cancellation to visa complications, others suggested the governor may not have received presidential approval for the encounter.
Prior to this, Governor Yusuf held a confidential discussion with his political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to address mounting tension over his defection plans. During the meeting, he reportedly assured Kwankwaso that he would delay any formal move until he had consulted the president and clarified the terms of joining the APC.
As pressure mounts ahead of the APC congress, indications suggest that the governor may soon resign from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and formalize his transition to the ruling party.
This week, Governor Yusuf met with Abba Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, to communicate his intentions. He also held discussions with Nasir Ja’oji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, to coordinate a meeting with the APC state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.
The governor has reportedly instructed his spokesman to invite media representatives to Abuja for a briefing, fueling speculation over his political future. Sources suggest the briefing could either follow a council meeting or serve as an announcement of his new political direction.
Initially, Kano APC stakeholders had planned to register Governor Yusuf as the first member of the party on the e-registration portal. However, the plan was delayed due to the governor’s indecision and repeated postponements. The stakeholders eventually moved to proceed without him but later halted registration after Yusuf requested a postponement, reaffirming his commitment to joining the APC.
APC stakeholders in the state have now suspended the e-registration indefinitely, pending the governor’s final decision.
