However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from the Oyo Forum, Abuja, a group of prominent Oyo indigenes, who have raised concerns over the proposed amendment to the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs Law. In a statement signed by Chairman Engineer Segun Owolabi and Media/Publicity Chairman Ambassador Tunde Mustapha, the Forum warned that rotating the chairmanship could undermine the cultural and historical significance of the Alaafin stool.
The group urged Governor Makinde to withhold assent to the bill recently passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly, emphasizing that the Alaafin stool represents centuries-old spiritual and ancestral leadership of the Yoruba people. According to the Forum, reducing the position to a rotating office risks disrespecting a legacy of profound cultural value to the Yoruba ethnic group.
