You Were Lucky To Run With Peter Obi – Labour Party BoT Fires At Datti.
According to Nivo News, the Board of Trustees of the Labour Party constituted by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning to former vice-presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, cautioning him against making what it described as premature political declarations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The warning follows comments recently attributed to Baba-Ahmed suggesting an interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election. Although the former vice-presidential candidate later denied making a formal declaration, explaining that his remarks were misinterpreted and only meant to reaffirm his membership of the Labour Party, concerns have continued to trail the statement.
Despite the clarification, members of the NLC-aligned Board of Trustees have expressed strong reservations over Baba-Ahmed’s comments and his standing within the party. Speaking on the issue, a member of the Board, Lawson Osagie, questioned the legitimacy of any presidential ambition under the current leadership structure of the party.
Osagie stated that the tenure of the party’s national leadership had expired, stressing that there is presently a leadership vacuum within the Labour Party. He pointed out that recent pronouncements by the Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed that the commission does not recognise the existing leadership, in line with a Supreme Court judgment that declared the expiration of the leadership’s tenure.
According to him, Baba-Ahmed does not currently belong to any recognised organ of the party and lacks the moral authority to project a presidential ambition. He described the former vice-presidential candidate as an outsider interfering in party affairs, adding that Baba-Ahmed was merely fortunate to have contested alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 election, which he noted did not result in victory.
Osagie further dismissed Baba-Ahmed’s comments as self-serving, accusing him of seeking relevance and creating distractions within the party. He insisted that the Labour Party does not require individuals whose actions could undermine unity and stability ahead of future elections.
