Bello Turji Strikes Fear Again: Sokoto Villagers Flee Amid New Threats.

Residents of Tidibale, a farming community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, are living in fear following a renewed threat from notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who had maintained a low profile in recent months.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, Turji’s warning of “dire consequences” for Tidibale and nearby settlements that have resisted his influence has triggered mass displacement, with many villagers fleeing to Isa Town, Gidan Hamisu, and areas in Shinkafi, Zamfara State, in search of safety. Local farmers, who would ordinarily be preparing for the planting season, are now forced to live in crowded homes or temporary shelters, uncertain about when they can return to their farmlands.

Sources indicate that Turji, long associated with criminal activities in the Northwest, is seeking to reassert his dominance in the region. Some communities in Shinkafi Local Government Area, including Shinkafi town, Katuru, Jangeru, and Kanwa, have reportedly entered into truces with the bandit, agreeing not to resist or report his activities—a move residents describe as a survival strategy rather than endorsement of his actions.

Security analysts note that Turji’s threats often follow periods of quiet, signaling a need to maintain control and relevance. Altine Guyawa, a commentator on regional banditry and kidnapping, said Turji’s operations are currently concentrated in Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, and Rabah local government areas, where no truce exists. “These threats are not just acts of vengeance, but reminders of his enduring influence,” Guyawa said.

In addition to issuing threats, Turji’s group continues to kidnap residents and transport them to forest camps near Shinkafi, where ransoms are negotiated before release. The cross-border nature of these crimes has compounded insecurity in the region, illustrating the persistent challenges faced by communities in Northwestern Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the state party chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, during the inauguration of the Tinubu-Hamzat Campaign Council at the APC secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja.

According to Ojelabi, this measure is designed to ensure that all candidates and party members remain fully focused on campaign preparations and mobilization activities. He also cautioned against underestimating opposition parties, stressing the need for total commitment to the electoral process.

Key Highlights from Chairman Ojelabi’s Address:
