EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Defends Forceful Operations: “My Badge Is My Warrant”.

Chairman Ola Olukoyede made the declaration during an interview on Channels Television, defending the agency’s operational methods as consistent with international standards. He stressed that the EFCC’s actions, including forceful entry when necessary, mirror practices employed by agencies such as the FBI and the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Olukoyede acknowledged criticisms of the commission’s approach, particularly in the arrest of suspected cybercriminals, but urged Nigerians to cooperate with the agency, emphasizing that its operations serve the nation’s interest. “It’s important for us to appreciate the institutions we have in Nigeria and make them work. Foreigners will not do it for us,” he said, noting collaboration with international counterparts to enhance professionalism.
He further highlighted the recognition the EFCC has received from foreign agencies. “I have had cause to receive the Director of the FBI in my office to acknowledge what we do here… So if foreigners acknowledge what we do, what about Nigerians? Why can’t we allow these institutions to survive?” Olukoyede asked, adding that no institution is perfect but achievements should be supported for national progress.
On the agency’s authority to act without prior warrants, Olukoyede stated, “The law, the badge I carry, is my warrant to arrest anytime, any day, under the conditions of the law.”
