The governor visited the palace a day after the incident to assess the destruction, which reportedly included damaged doors and windows, vandalized vehicles, broken furniture, and looted goods belonging to the royal family. He was accompanied by senior state officials, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress, including the state chairman and stakeholders from Edo Central Senatorial District.

During the visit, Governor Okpebholo described the invasion as criminal and emphasized that public protests should never be used as a cover for violence or theft. He highlighted the government’s ongoing security initiatives, including technology-driven operations in Edo North, Edo South, and Edo Central, noting recent successes such as the rescue of nine kidnapped victims in Etsako West and the arrest of their abductors.

The governor warned that those responsible for the palace attack would face justice and vowed that authorities would act decisively against anyone exploiting protests for criminal purposes. He added that, as an Esan man and a representative of Ekpoma, he is personally committed to maintaining peace and ensuring accountability for offenders.

The Onojie of Ekpoma described the attack as regrettable, stating that many protesters appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He noted that his initial attempts to address the crowd were blocked, and the group later returned, forcibly entered the palace, and caused widespread destruction.

Governor Okpebholo assured the monarch and the people of Ekpoma that robust security measures would soon be implemented to restore law and order in Edo Central and ensure the safety of residents.

The couple reportedly developed symptoms including fever, vomiting, fatigue, headaches and unexplained bleeding, prompting health authorities to activate emergency surveillance and contact-tracing measures.

Documents obtained by Premium Times revealed that the two individuals were admitted to the isolation centre at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, on October 29, 2026.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) subsequently confirmed that laboratory samples collected from both patients returned negative results after two rounds of testing.

The agency stressed that there was no laboratory-confirmed case of Ebola in Adamawa State.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Jide Idris, the NCDC said it was working with the Adamawa State Government to investigate the suspected infections.

According to the agency, the two individuals were immediately isolated, while public health measures were activated and samples collected for laboratory examination.

“Fortunately, the samples turned out negative for EBV after two rounds of testing,” Mr Idris said.

An internal memorandum from the Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Human Services, dated October 30 and signed by the State Epidemiologist, Jones Kadabiyu, indicated that the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received a report about the suspected infections at 6:45 a.m.

The report was reportedly triggered by an alert from a clinician at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital.

‘No Candidate Matches Makinde’s Competence’ – Daura Weighs In On 2027 Race.

Published

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, has called on Nigerians to assess presidential candidates based on their records, maintaining that the party’s flagbearer, Seyi Makinde, distinguishes himself in this regard.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Daura made the appeal at the weekend when members of the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) visited the APM Presidential Campaign Headquarters in Abuja to present Makinde with an award and pledge their support for his candidacy.

The APM running mate described Makinde as the most competent and credible contender in the presidential race, pointing to his achievements as governor of Oyo State.

He said the APM candidate “ranks above other Presidential candidates on performance, national vision, productivity and service delivery.”

Daura also assured the people of the North that a Makinde-Daura administration would be an inclusive four-year transitional government focused on national unity and reforming the economy, education, security and political system.

Recalling the NPF’s earlier visit to Oyo State, Daura challenged those questioning Makinde’s competence to examine his record in office.

“I was happy when you said that you went to Oyo State and you have confirmed the quality of governance and unprecedented development by our Presidential candidate,” he said.

He further noted that Makinde had built a successful business career and developed strong financial expertise before venturing into politics.

“Beyond his personal integrity, we should also examine his record in public office. What has he achieved? Look at his performance. His transparency and accountability set him apart,” Daura added.

The former security chief urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic considerations when deciding who to support, insisting that candidates should be judged by how they used the opportunities entrusted to them in the past.

“We in Nigeria are confronted with enormous challenges, particularly poverty and poor governance. We cannot afford to continue supporting leadership without examining what individuals have done with the opportunities entrusted to them,” he said.

Daura commended the NPF for its advocacy of people-centred democracy and urged political stakeholders to educate voters to enable them to make informed decisions.

In his remarks, NPF President Ali Abacha said political stakeholders in the North had embraced Makinde’s presidential ambition, his Reset Nigeria agenda and his proposal for a four-year transitional government.

Abacha said the group’s assessment of Makinde’s performance in Oyo State had convinced it that he was qualified to lead the country.

He also praised Makinde for choosing Daura, whom he described as a security expert, as his running mate, saying the decision demonstrated the ticket’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

The NPF president pledged that the group would mobilise support and work towards the victory of the Makinde-Daura ticket.

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has ruled out the possibility of postponing the 23rd National Sports Festival, maintaining that the competition will commence as scheduled on November 28 in Enugu State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olopade gave the assurance during an inspection of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and other facilities earmarked for the event, expressing satisfaction with the level of preparations.

He disclosed that the commission had secured the necessary funding and equipment for the festival, adding that work on outstanding facilities would be completed before the opening ceremony.

According to him, the swimming pool is expected to be ready by November 18, while the laying of the stadium’s tartan track will commence in the coming days. He also confirmed that buses required to transport athletes during the competition were ready.

“In the coming days, the tartan track will be laid, and buses to move the athletes are ready,” he said.

The NSC chief also criticised reports suggesting that the festival might be postponed, describing such claims as inconsistent with earlier announcements by the commission and the Enugu State Government.

“When Lagos asked for postponement, we came out confidently to tell the public. Heaven did not fall,” he said.

“Suggesting that it will be postponed after announcement from Enugu State and NSC suggests that we are deceiving the nation. Not nice at all.”

Olopade further revealed that the Enugu 2026 edition was projected to become the most heavily sponsored National Sports Festival in the competition’s history, with sponsorship expected to range between ₦12 billion and ₦15 billion.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to officially declare the festival open on November 28, while about 12,000 athletes and officials are scheduled to arrive in Enugu from November 26.

Representatives from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will participate in various sporting events during the competition.

Olopade commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his commitment to hosting the festival, describing the state as a safe and welcoming destination for athletes and other participants.
