“Rivers Impeachment Crisis: Modibo Warns Tinubu Against Abandoning Fubara”.
According to Nivo News, political analyst Ibrahim Modibo has described the renewed impeachment attempts against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as a dangerous power play driven by political overreach rather than genuine governance concerns. Speaking on Arise News, Modibo warned that the crisis in Rivers State threatens democratic stability not only locally but across Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Modibo linked the impeachment moves to the political influence of former Rivers State governor and current Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that the agitation against Fubara is orchestrated by Wike. He questioned the rationale behind the repeated attempts to remove the governor, arguing that Fubara’s performance in office has been commendable, citing achievements such as over 100,000 housing units for the poor, timely salary and pension payments, and 13th-month bonuses for workers.
The analyst criticised excessive political dominance, stressing that no godfather should exercise overwhelming control over an elected official. He expressed confidence that Fubara could withstand the impeachment pressure if supported by national party structures and APC governors. Modibo dismissed the allegations by the Rivers State House of Assembly as frivolous, politically motivated, and personal, rather than serving the public interest.
Turning to President Bola Tinubu, Modibo warned that the situation presents a critical test of leadership. He cautioned that abandoning Fubara would signal insecurity for all governors who crossed over to the APC and that unchecked influence by powerful political figures could even threaten the presidency. Modibo compared Wike’s political impact to a bulldog, capable of demolishing structures, and warned that similar interference within the APC could have serious consequences for democracy.
The analyst concluded that removing a sitting governor through political coercion would set a dangerous precedent, undermining democratic institutions and creating a climate of impunity.
