Nigeria’s Quality Spoke Loudest — Algerian Defender Breaks Silence After Exit.
Algeria defender Aïssa Mandi has dismissed suggestions that officiating played a role in his country’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that Nigeria fully deserved their victory. According to Nivo News, Algeria were eliminated on Saturday after suffering a 2–0 defeat to the Super Eagles in what was widely regarded as one of the tournament’s most anticipated fixtures.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Contrary to pre-match expectations of a tightly contested encounter, Nigeria dominated large portions of the game, repeatedly stretching the Algerian defence and asserting control throughout the contest. The Super Eagles’ authority was eventually rewarded in the second half, as Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams found the net to seal a convincing win.
Following the defeat, sections of Algerian supporters and football analysts raised concerns over the performance of Senegalese referee Issa Sy, alleging that some of his decisions favoured Nigeria and disrupted Algeria’s flow. However, Mandi rejected those claims, stressing that the referee had no influence on the outcome of the match.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the experienced defender acknowledged Nigeria’s quality, describing the Super Eagles as a well-drilled and mature side with the depth and talent to win matches on merit. He noted that Nigeria’s performances throughout the tournament had consistently demonstrated their strength, regardless of officiating decisions.
With the victory, Nigeria advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, where they will face Morocco’s Atlas Lions on Wednesday, January 14. The Super Eagles will be aiming to secure a place in the final as they continue their pursuit of a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.
