CAN Raises Alarm Over Terror Plot To Spark Religious War In Northern Nigeria.
According to Nivo News, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, has raised an alarm over what he described as a calculated attempt by terrorist groups to provoke a religious conflict in northern Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interaction with journalists in Kaduna on Saturday, Hayab cautioned Nigerians against allowing recent attacks in parts of the region to be framed along religious lines, stressing that terrorism should be viewed as a shared national threat rather than a Christian or Muslim issue.
He said intelligence and observable patterns suggest that terrorists, allegedly backed by unidentified interests, are deliberately targeting Christian communities in some North-Central states, including Niger, Kwara and Kogi, with the intention of fueling religious tension and destabilising the North.
According to him, the strategy behind the attacks is to pit Christians and Muslims against each other, a development he warned must be firmly resisted by citizens and security agencies alike.
Hayab emphasised that the killing of any Nigerian, regardless of faith or ethnicity, amounts to a national tragedy, noting that violence against one group diminishes the collective humanity of the country.
He further referenced Islamic teachings, pointing out that prominent Muslim leaders have repeatedly highlighted that the Qur’an condemns the killing of innocent persons, equating the taking of one life to the destruction of all humanity.
The CAN chairman argued that if such religious principles were genuinely upheld, Muslim communities themselves would rise to reject and confront violence perpetrated in the name of religion.
He urged Nigerians across religious lines to expose individuals who commit crimes under the guise of faith, warning that silence only emboldens extremists and undermines national unity.
Hayab dismissed any suggestion that one religious group could force another out of northern Nigeria, insisting that coexistence is inevitable and non-negotiable.
He called on residents of the region to embrace unity, mutual understanding and cooperation, stressing that only collective resistance between Christians and Muslims would defeat terrorism and safeguard peace and stability in the North.
