Impeachment Storm: Tinubu Intervenes, Summons Wike Over Rivers Tension.
According to Nivo News, President Bola Tinubu has stepped into the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, moving to address the deepening rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid renewed impeachment threats against the governor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Information reaching Nivo News indicates that the President has summoned Wike for a high-level meeting expected to take place outside Nigeria as part of efforts to defuse tensions and restore political stability in the oil-rich state. The intervention comes as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, believed to be loyal to Wike, initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
It was further gathered that Governor Fubara recently travelled out of the country on a private jet, with plans to meet President Tinubu in France, where the President is currently on an official trip. Insiders disclosed that discussions surrounding the Rivers crisis are expected to be held abroad, stressing that the President is determined to rein in actions capable of destabilising the state.
A senior source familiar with the matter described the impeachment push as a serious challenge to presidential authority, warning that such moves could heighten ethnic tensions and threaten national economic interests, particularly oil production. The source maintained that President Tinubu would not tolerate any action that could trigger unrest or undermine peace in the Niger Delta region.
Concerns were also raised that removing the first Ijaw governor of Rivers State could provoke renewed agitation among youths in the region, with potential consequences for security and the economy. The source emphasised that these risks partly informed the earlier declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Meanwhile, a top presidential aide said he was not officially aware of a scheduled meeting between the President and the FCT minister but confirmed that President Tinubu was currently in France and would later proceed to Abu Dhabi. He added that the President had previously endorsed Governor Fubara’s political decisions and reaffirmed the principle that sitting governors remain the leaders of their respective parties in their states.
