Fubara Impeachment Plot ‘Dead On Arrival’ — Ex-Rivers Commissioner Fires Back.

Published

According to Nivo News, a former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Austin Tam George, has dismissed the latest impeachment notice issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing it as politically motivated and lacking any legal foundation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during a television interview on Thursday, Tam George said the impeachment move was effectively “dead on arrival,” arguing that it was triggered by Governor Fubara’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress, which he said disrupted existing political power structures in the state.

He maintained that the governor’s decision to change party allegiance had weakened the influence of rival political blocs, prompting renewed efforts to regain control through legislative pressure rather than lawful means.

Tam George accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of fostering instability in Rivers State, recalling his own experience serving in the former governor’s administration. He said he resigned from office at the time due to what he described as a pattern of chaos, intolerance and the personalization of governance.

According to him, the impeachment attempt is aimed at halting Governor Fubara’s growing popularity and derailing what he described as a people-oriented style of governance. He praised the governor’s leadership, noting that public resources were now being directed toward social development instead of political patronage.

He said funds previously channelled to political interests were being invested in education, healthcare, housing and rural development, adding that significant progress had been recorded across critical sectors. He cited the revival of tertiary health institutions, the upgrade of over 120 primary healthcare centres across the state’s local government areas, and the construction of thousands of housing units, including recently commissioned projects for civil servants.

Tam George also questioned the legal basis of the impeachment notice, insisting that the allegations lacked clarity and failed to identify any specific constitutional breach by the governor or his deputy. He dismissed claims surrounding the 2025 budget, arguing that it had already been lawfully processed, approved and signed, making calls for its re-presentation unnecessary.

He further alleged that the impeachment move was designed to prevent Governor Fubara from securing a second term in office, warning that removing the governor would destabilise Rivers State. He urged the APC leadership to defend the governor, describing him as the party’s leader in the state and one of the best-performing governors in the country.

Tam George also accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of acting under external influence rather than in the public interest, warning that the people of the state would resist any attempt to hijack democratic governance for personal or political gain.
