EFCC Opens Investigation Into Ex-NMDPRA Boss After Dangote’s Explosive Petition.

Information available indicates that the petition was officially forwarded to the EFCC earlier in the week through Dangote’s legal team, coming shortly after a similar petition was withdrawn from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Despite the withdrawal, the ICPC had earlier maintained that its inquiry into the allegations would continue.
The complaint stems from claims that the former NMDPRA boss allegedly expended about $5 million on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland, a figure said to be disproportionate to his legitimate earnings while in public service.
A senior official of the anti-graft agency in Abuja confirmed that the petition had been received and that investigative procedures were already underway. The official, who spoke anonymously due to lack of authorisation to comment publicly, disclosed that substantial investigative work was ongoing on the matter.
In the petition authored by Dangote’s lead counsel, Dr. O.J. Onoja, SAN, the EFCC was urged to probe allegations bordering on abuse of office and illicit enrichment against Ahmed, with a request for prosecution should the claims be substantiated.
The document further stated that the petitioner was prepared to provide documentary and other supporting evidence to back the allegations of financial misconduct and alleged impunity linked to the former regulatory chief.
The petition emphasised confidence in the EFCC’s statutory mandate to tackle corruption and financial crimes, noting that courts have consistently imposed sanctions on offenders once a prima facie case is established.
Onoja also called on the commission, under the leadership of its chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, to carry out a comprehensive investigation and pursue appropriate legal action where necessary.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the EFCC spokesperson were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the development, stating that a response would be provided at a later time. As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued.
