Rivers Crisis: CUPP Says Tinubu Emerges Biggest Winner In Wike–Fubara Feud.
According to Nivo News, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has asserted that President Bola Tinubu stands to benefit most from the ongoing political rift between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The opposition coalition described the crisis as a calculated political arrangement that has ultimately placed the oil-rich state under increased federal influence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Peter Ameh, the coalition alleged that Rivers State is being deliberately sacrificed as a political offering to the Presidency. Ameh warned that the implementation of peace agreements brokered at the federal level has effectively subordinated both Fubara and Wike to presidential authority, stripping the state of any meaningful political independence.
CUPP argued that the prolonged conflict reflects a rivalry driven by desperation for relevance and patronage, rather than genuine concern for governance. According to the coalition, both political figures have abandoned responsible leadership in favour of public displays of loyalty, at the expense of the collective interests and future of Rivers State residents.
The coalition maintained that ordinary citizens remain the true victims of the crisis, as their peace, democratic rights, and economic prospects are being compromised for the personal survival and political relevance of a few individuals. It noted that repeated interventions, including emergency measures and peace accords facilitated by the Presidency, have only served to tighten federal control over the state’s political affairs.
Ameh insisted that President Tinubu has emerged as the clear beneficiary of the standoff, claiming that both Wike and Fubara are now politically constrained and subject to directives from the centre. He lamented that Rivers State has been plunged into prolonged instability, marked by disrupted governance, weakened democratic institutions, and the diversion of public resources away from development priorities toward political manoeuvring.
The coalition urged the people of Rivers State to remain vigilant and demand accountable leadership, calling for a return to issue-driven politics focused on the welfare of citizens rather than personal ambition. CUPP also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democracy and the rule of law, cautioning that unchecked federal interference in state affairs poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s federal system.

-
Human Trafficking Crisis: Akande-Sadipe underscored that human trafficking remains a severe violation of human rights, with many Nigerians—particularly women and youths—continuing to endure sexual exploitation, forced labor, and modern slavery across the region.
Allegations Against Embassy Officials
The meeting also served as a forum for serious accusations regarding the conduct of officials at the Nigerian Embassy in Mali:
-
Lack of Transparency: The National Council of Child Rights Advocates, Nigeria, presented findings from an 11-month fact-finding mission alleging that embassy officials have shown a lack of transparency in repatriation efforts.
-
Financial Irregularities: Adefioye Simeon, representing the Council, alleged that private individuals paid officials approximately 200,000 CFA francs per victim to facilitate transportation back to Nigeria, with no clear accounting for how these funds were used.
-
Documentation Issues: Further allegations suggest that officials issued identification cards for fees ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 CFA francs, only for those documents to be rejected at border checkpoints.
In response to these claims, the Council has urged the House committee to launch a formal investigation and to improve coordination between NAPTIP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and relevant security and civil society organizations.
