Relief For Households As LPG Prices Drop By 21% Across Nigeria.

Published

on

There is growing cautious optimism among consumers and retailers of liquefied petroleum gas across Nigeria as improved supply has led to a noticeable drop in prices in several parts of the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, cooking gas is now selling between ₦1,000 and ₦1,400 per kilogramme in many locations, depending on the seller and logistics, marking a significant decline from the sharp increases recorded late last year.

Market findings indicate that LPG availability improved towards the end of 2025, easing the severe shortages experienced in September and October. Consumers in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and other states confirmed purchasing cooking gas at prices ranging from ₦1,050 to ₦1,400 per kg, while some major marketers were found to be selling directly to consumers at about ₦900 per kg.

For many households, the current pricing represents a major relief compared with late 2025, when prices reportedly surged to as high as ₦2,000 per kg in some areas following disruptions in supply.

The earlier spike was linked to a dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, which led to the shutdown of gas facilities during the period.

Despite the easing prices, many consumers expressed hope that cooking gas would fall below ₦1,000 per kg in the new year, stressing that affordability remains critical to encouraging wider adoption of clean cooking energy.

Speaking on the development, the National Chairman of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Ayobami Olarinoye, said the LPG market has become relatively stable, with improved supply reaching Apapa in Lagos.

He explained that retail prices vary based on neighbourhoods and logistics costs, noting that street retailers currently sell between ₦1,300 and ₦1,400 per kg, while prices may be lower at fuel stations and gas plants.

Olarinoye further disclosed that retailers now purchase LPG from major marketers at prices ranging between ₦960 and ₦1,050 per kg, adding that sellers offering prices below ₦1,000 per kg are typically plant owners who sell directly to end users.

He added that expectations remain high following earlier assurances by the Dangote Refinery to make cooking gas more affordable by selling directly to consumers, a move stakeholders believe could further stabilise prices if implemented.

Speaking on behalf of Adelabu, media aide Femi Awogboro insisted that the party’s national leadership has yet to issue an official declaration, rendering any local announcements premature and speculative. According to Awogboro, the Adelabu camp remains committed to the party’s hierarchy and is patiently awaiting a formal pronouncement from the National Working Committee.

Key points from the Adelabu camp’s response include:

  • Reliance on National Leadership: The camp maintains that only the APC’s national body holds the authority to finalize and announce a candidate.

  • Rejection of Local Claims: Awogboro dismissed current claims of a concluded selection process as lacking formal communication from the party’s highest level.

  • Demand for Due Process: The camp expressed concern over alleged inconsistencies in party procedures, noting that internal processes must be fair and inclusive of all aspirants to maintain party integrity.

  • Stance on Reconciliation: Awogboro warned that any attempts at reconciliation would be futile if built upon perceived injustices, emphasizing that justice and transparency must guide the party’s actions.
