According to Nivo News, Jonathan made the remarks while receiving members of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, during a high-level consultative meeting at his private office in Abuja on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

The meeting focused on reconciliation within the party and strategic efforts to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections. Jonathan described the PDP as more than a political organization, calling it a national institution with the historical resilience and structural capacity to overcome current internal challenges.

“The PDP, as the only surviving original political party since 1998, has been a vital contributor to our democracy since 1999. I have benefited from this party, which gave me the platform to serve as Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, and President. I am deeply grateful and will continue to contribute because I feel a strong sense of obligation,” Jonathan said.

He urged party leaders to prioritize national interest and institutional development above personal ambitions, emphasizing that robust political parties are crucial for sustaining democratic stability.

Dr. Turaki, in his remarks, thanked Jonathan for his guidance and steadfast loyalty to the PDP. He highlighted the current leadership’s commitment to a “Rebirth Agenda” aimed at rebuilding the party and restoring its appeal to Nigerians. “Our objective is to return power to the people and reposition the PDP as the party of the majority. We are engaging aggrieved members because a united PDP is the most viable platform for a balanced and prosperous Nigeria,” Turaki said.

The delegation included notable figures such as Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Prof. Jerry Gana, Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, Hajiya Zainab Maina, Chief Mike Oghiadome, Mohammed Bello Adoke, and other members of the NWC.

High-Stakes Legal Drama: NDC Refuses To Fold, Launches Aggressive Appeal Against De-registration!

Published

on

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially appealed a recent Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja that instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withhold recognition of the party until ongoing legal disputes regarding its registration are resolved. The party maintains that it is still a legally registered entity and asserts that the court’s decision did not constitute an order for its deregistration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • National Publicity Secretary Osa Director confirmed that the party’s legal team has already filed for a stay of execution on the ruling.

  • National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Enekweizu clarified that the court’s action was limited to setting aside a prior judgment that had compelled INEC to register the NDC, rather than dissolving the party.

  • Enekweizu stated that there is currently no court order preventing the NDC from conducting its operations, and he has encouraged members and supporters to remain focused.

  • The party has directed its legal representatives to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal, expressing optimism that the ruling will be overturned due to perceived legal errors.

  • The NDC has reassured its candidates that activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections will continue as planned.

  • Party leadership suggested the timing of the judgment was intended to disrupt their election preparations, but they remain committed to using legal channels to protect the party’s interests.

The Lokoja Federal High Court’s ruling stemmed from an application filed by the Peace Movement Party, which claimed that the logo used by the NDC to secure its registration actually belonged to them.
