According to Nivo News, Justice Emeka Nwite granted the forfeiture order on Tuesday following an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, represented by its lawyer, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN. A certified true copy of the ruling was made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

The court noted that the properties, believed to be proceeds of unlawful activities, are located in Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna states. Justice Nwite directed that the interim forfeiture order be published in a national newspaper, allowing any person or body with a legal interest in the assets 14 days to show cause why a final forfeiture should not be granted.

The show-cause directive enables interested parties to file objections or assert claims before the court issues a final forfeiture judgment. The matter has been adjourned until January 27 for a compliance report on the court’s directives.

The seized assets include luxury duplexes, multi-storey buildings, hotels, commercial plazas, warehouses, and extensive land holdings across the four states, with some properties valued in the billions of naira. Among them are the Meethaq Hotels in Jabi and Maitama, Abuja, a luxury duplex in Maitama, commercial shops in Wuse and Abuja, and several estates and plots in Kano, Kaduna, and Birnin Kebbi. The total portfolio comprises both residential and commercial properties, acquired between 2016 and 2024, with values ranging from tens of millions to several billion naira.

Malami, his wife Hajia Bashir Asabe, and his son Abubakar Abdulaziz are reportedly facing an alleged ₦8.7 billion money laundering case before Justice Nwite, which formed the basis for the interim forfeiture application.
