“2027: Why Arewa Leaders Say They Won’t Endorse Any Presidential Candidate”.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has announced that it will not endorse any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, choosing instead to critically engage aspirants on their plans for addressing the challenges facing northern Nigeria. According to Nivo News, the decision was disclosed by the forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, during an interaction with journalists in Kaduna.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Muhammad-Baba explained that the forum intends to conduct interviews with presidential hopefuls within the next six months, focusing on key issues such as insecurity, poverty, education, and economic empowerment in the region. He noted that the process would follow a similar framework adopted by the ACF during the buildup to the 2023 elections.
“We will not endorse any presidential candidate or political party in 2027,” Muhammad-Baba said, stressing that the forum’s diverse membership makes partisan alignment impractical. He added that the ACF’s role is to evaluate ideas and policy proposals that align with northern interests rather than support individuals or political platforms.
He further disclosed that the forum would develop a comprehensive position paper outlining the priorities of northern Nigeria, which would be presented to whoever emerges as the winner of the 2027 presidential election.
Reflecting on past engagements, Muhammad-Baba recalled that during the 2023 election cycle, the forum invited major presidential candidates for interactive sessions, although not all accepted the invitation. He noted that while some candidates participated, others declined to attend.
Several prominent political figures have already been identified as potential contenders for the 2027 presidency, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, and Adewole Adebayo. Presidential primaries are expected around June 2026, with the general election scheduled for the first Saturday in February 2027.
The forum also clarified that while it endorsed former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2019 election, it refrained from backing any candidate in both the 2015 and 2023 polls.
Speaking separately, a former Secretary-General of the ACF, Anthony Sani, said the forum deliberately avoids endorsements because its members belong to different political parties. He maintained that while the North is united on regional interests, it remains politically diverse.
Similarly, the Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, stated that northern Nigeria would only support candidates who demonstrate a genuine commitment to protecting and promoting the region’s interests, regardless of party affiliation.
The ACF added that preparations for its consultations and position paper are expected to be concluded before June 2026.

2027: ‘Public Confidence In INEC Has Hit A Historic Low’ – PDP.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally expressed concern that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a record-low level of public trust, claiming the body has abandoned its role as an impartial and transparent arbiter. In a statement shared on its official account this Tuesday, the opposition party characterized the commission, led by Professor Joash Amupitan, as a proxy for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging it is working to maintain the current political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The PDP further argued that the commission’s inconsistent application of court orders and a noted lack of transparency regarding electronic result transmission have led voters to lose faith in the electoral process. According to the party, the survival of democracy during economic hardship depends on the public’s conviction that their grievances can be addressed through the ballot, a process that necessitates a truly independent umpire.
In related developments, INEC has begun issuing access codes to nine registered political parties—including the APC, PDP, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)—to facilitate the submission of candidate names for the 2027 general elections. These submissions cover presidential, governorship, and legislative races, excluding off-cycle contests in Kogi and Osun states. Additionally, an anonymous senior INEC official refuted claims that the NDC was blocked from accessing the nomination portal.

2. Is the Game On? Peter Obi Completes Nomination Forms, Sparking Fierce Speculation Across The Nation!.
Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that he has finalized his nomination forms for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement issued on Tuesday, Obi used the opportunity to challenge the current priorities of Nigerian political leadership, sparked by specific questions found on the nomination form.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Specifically, Obi referenced a section of the form that asks if a candidate has ever been declared a person of unsound mind. This prompted him to question whether today’s political leaders are truly acting with a “sound mind” given the severe challenges facing the nation. He argued that instead of focusing on political maneuvers, a truly sound-minded leadership would treat Nigeria’s existential crises—such as widespread insecurity, kidnappings, food instability, and the frivolous waste of public funds—as a national emergency. He urged that the security, survival, and stability of the country must take absolute priority over partisan advantage.
Furthermore, reacting to another question on the form regarding the submission of forged certificates, Obi called on INEC to increase transparency by publicly releasing the academic credentials of every candidate seeking elective office. He emphasized that such measures are necessary to strengthen public trust in the electoral process and ensure leaders are held to higher standards. Obi concluded by asserting that Nigeria requires a shift away from “politics as usual,” advocating instead for a new era of leadership characterized by character, competence, capacity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to service.
