“Unacceptable And Illegal” — United Nations Condemns U.S. Action In Venezuela.
The United Nations has strongly criticised the United States over its recent military invasion of Venezuela and the arrest of the country’s president, Nicolas Maduro, describing the justification offered by Washington as unacceptable and contrary to international law.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the UN’s position was conveyed on Tuesday in Geneva by the spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, Ravina Shamdasanie, who warned that the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of another country violates fundamental principles of international law. She called on the global community to collectively condemn the action taken by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Shamdasanie stated that the invasion undermines the international legal framework established to preserve global peace and security. She stressed that no state has the right to threaten or use force against another sovereign nation, noting that such actions weaken the foundations of international order.
The UN official acknowledged that the organisation has long documented the deterioration of human rights conditions in Venezuela, but insisted that meaningful change cannot be achieved through unilateral military intervention. She warned that using human rights concerns as justification for armed action is unacceptable and risks worsening an already fragile situation.
According to her, the invasion has prompted Venezuelan authorities to declare a state of emergency, enabling measures such as property seizures, restrictions on movement, and suspension of the right to protest. She cautioned that far from advancing human rights, the military intervention damages the architecture of global security and makes all countries less safe.
Meanwhile, the deposed Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro, has pleaded not guilty to charges brought against him at a New York court, including allegations related to narcotics and weapons trafficking. Maduro maintained his innocence, stating that he was forcibly taken from his residence in Caracas during the U.S. military operation.
The 63-year-old insisted that he remains the legitimate president of Venezuela, describing the operation as a kidnapping and reiterating that he bears no guilt for the charges read against him in court.

Highlighting the importance of local politics, Nwuche advised politicians from other states to refrain from interfering in Rivers’ political affairs, emphasizing that the state has unique political dynamics that outsiders may not fully grasp. “Go back to your states and demonstrate your political strength. Leave Rivers State alone. Rivers State has its own peculiar political dynamics that outsiders may not fully understand,” he said.
Nwuche described Rivers as a political family, stressing that loyalty and collective effort are essential in showing gratitude to leaders. He commended Wike for successfully mobilizing Rivers residents to vote for Tinubu and Siminalayi Fubara during the 2023 general elections, though he expressed disappointment over Fubara’s subsequent performance. He noted that many stakeholders had supported Fubara based on Wike’s guidance rather than personal familiarity with the governor.
The former Deputy Speaker also praised Wike’s achievements, noting that he executed more than 22 development projects in Ahoada East, a level of impact unprecedented in the state since 1999. “No governor in Rivers State has come close to the level of impact we witnessed during your tenure as governor. Therefore, wherever you go, there we shall go,” Nwuche said.
In response, Wike stated that his visit was intended to thank residents for their support in 2023 and to further mobilize them ahead of the 2027 elections. He assured the people that what he described as leadership missteps would be corrected in 2027 and encouraged continued confidence in President Tinubu.

Fubara Accused Of Illegal Spending Amid Budget Vacuum In Rivers State.
Robinson Ewor, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of mismanaging public funds and operating the state without an approved budget for 2026, according to Nivo News.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ewor made the allegations during a “thank you” visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to Ahoada East Local Government Area. He claimed that the state’s governance has been hindered by poor collaboration between the executive and legislative branches, warning that all spending in the absence of a formally passed appropriation law is unlawful.
“The government is designed so that there must be an executive, a legislature, and a judiciary. The three must work together to deliver the dividends of democracy for the state. As of 2026, the state has no budget. Every expenditure from January 1 onward is illegal,” Ewor stated.
He further urged the state government to adopt transparency and honesty in its dealings with citizens. “I will advise them to be the leaders they claim to be. Let them communicate openly and tell their followers the truth,” he added.
