The announcement, released via the Scheme’s official (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, stated that camp registration for all prospective corps members will begin on the first day of orientation and continue for three days. The registration period is scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 21 to midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.
The Swearing-in Ceremony will take place on Friday, January 23, while the Closing Ceremony is slated for Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of the NYSC, urged all prospective corps members to travel safely to their respective states of deployment and specifically cautioned against night journeys to ensure personal safety.
The NYSC management also advised corps members to strictly adhere to the orientation camp timetable to guarantee a smooth and successful programme nationwide. Established in 1973 to foster national unity and integration following the Nigerian Civil War, the NYSC mandates the three-week orientation camp as the foundational phase of national service.
During the orientation, corps members undergo paramilitary drills, physical training, and lectures on national issues. They also participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, designed to equip them with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, alongside cultural and social activities.
The Scheme emphasised that the orientation period is aimed at promoting unity, discipline, and teamwork among young Nigerians, while fostering interpersonal relations across ethnic, religious, and cultural lines. The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to using the programme to strengthen national cohesion and prepare corps members for subsequent phases of their service year.
