In a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebojele Akhere Patrick, the administration described the incident as tragic, regrettable, and unacceptable. The statement emphasized that the attack would not weaken the state’s determination to intensify efforts against kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The government noted that the act appeared designed to undermine ongoing security initiatives in Edo State. While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the administration assured the public that those responsible would be apprehended and face the full force of the law.

“The threat of kidnapping remains a pressing concern that has received our full attention,” the statement said. “Our interventions and security strategies have significantly mitigated what could have otherwise been a more alarming situation. The Okpebholo administration remains committed to addressing all security challenges, as evidenced by a peaceful and crime-free yuletide celebration.”

Ahead of the festive season, the state’s Operation Rescue team conducted extensive security operations across Auchi, Agenebode, Okpella, Fugar, and Owan areas. The exercise successfully uncovered kidnappers’ hideouts, led to multiple arrests, and in some instances, resulted in the elimination of suspects during armed engagements. The statement stressed that these efforts demonstrate the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating kidnapping and ensuring the safety of residents.
