NDLEA Busts 65-Year-Old Drug Queen, Seizes Illicit Substances Hidden In Coffee Sachets.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant quantities of illicit drugs concealed in unconventional packages, including coffee sachets and a book parcel bound for Zambia and the United Kingdom, according to Nivo News. The seizures occurred at a Lagos-based courier company on December 24 and 29, coinciding with the detention of 22 Indian crew members of the merchant vessel MV Aruna Hulya. During the operation at Apapa Port, Lagos, operatives recovered 31.5 kilograms of cocaine from the vessel’s hatch three. Those arrested included the ship’s master and 21 crew members.

In Oyo State, a 65-year-old woman identified as Fatima Ilori, popularly known as Mama Kerosine, was arrested as a suspected major drug distributor in Ibadan following the seizure of 238.4 kilograms of skunk cannabis. She was detained alongside 35-year-old Olusanya Abosede in the Onireke/Elekuro area of the state.

NDLEA operations also disrupted drug supply chains in Borno State, with two arrests and the confiscation of large consignments of illicit substances. Authorities intercepted 9,150 ampoules of tramadol injections along the Maiduguri–Gamboru Ngala road and recovered 34,000 tramadol capsules at Biu Market on the same day. Additional seizures included 400 kilograms of skunk in Lagos, 140.8 kilograms of compressed skunk blocks in Jigawa, and 238.5 kilograms of skunk in Ilorin, Kwara State. Another 32,000 pills of tramadol and diazepam were seized from a suspect in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.

The NDLEA continues to implement nationwide drug abuse sensitisation programs in schools, workplaces, worship centres, and communities as part of the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse initiative. The NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts and called for intensified operations to curb drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate across accredited centres.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
