The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant quantities of illicit drugs concealed in unconventional packages, including coffee sachets and a book parcel bound for Zambia and the United Kingdom, according to Nivo News. The seizures occurred at a Lagos-based courier company on December 24 and 29, coinciding with the detention of 22 Indian crew members of the merchant vessel MV Aruna Hulya. During the operation at Apapa Port, Lagos, operatives recovered 31.5 kilograms of cocaine from the vessel’s hatch three. Those arrested included the ship’s master and 21 crew members.
In Oyo State, a 65-year-old woman identified as Fatima Ilori, popularly known as Mama Kerosine, was arrested as a suspected major drug distributor in Ibadan following the seizure of 238.4 kilograms of skunk cannabis. She was detained alongside 35-year-old Olusanya Abosede in the Onireke/Elekuro area of the state.
NDLEA operations also disrupted drug supply chains in Borno State, with two arrests and the confiscation of large consignments of illicit substances. Authorities intercepted 9,150 ampoules of tramadol injections along the Maiduguri–Gamboru Ngala road and recovered 34,000 tramadol capsules at Biu Market on the same day. Additional seizures included 400 kilograms of skunk in Lagos, 140.8 kilograms of compressed skunk blocks in Jigawa, and 238.5 kilograms of skunk in Ilorin, Kwara State. Another 32,000 pills of tramadol and diazepam were seized from a suspect in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.
The NDLEA continues to implement nationwide drug abuse sensitisation programs in schools, workplaces, worship centres, and communities as part of the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse initiative. The NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts and called for intensified operations to curb drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
