The statement confirmed that the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Oloriegbe, approved the resumption of academic activities for all public and private primary and secondary schools, except in areas identified as requiring heightened security measures.
“We welcome our children and teachers back to school across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all communities, except those under special security surveillance,” Oloriegbe said. He explained that the phased reopening aims to protect students while security operations continue in affected areas, assuring that normal school activities will resume once the situation stabilizes.
In addition, the ministry, in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission and the State Universal Basic Education Board, extended New Year goodwill wishes to pupils, teachers, and parents, encouraging a productive academic session.
The ministry also launched a radio-based learning initiative, in partnership with UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport, to expand access to education beyond traditional classrooms. Lessons will be broadcast on Midland FM 99.1 at 11 a.m. on Mondays, 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays, with plans to partner with additional radio stations to reach more learners across the state.
