Kwankwaso Has Not Approved Any Defection To APC — NNPP Spokesman

Published

on

The National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has dismissed reports suggesting that key figures within the Kwankwasiyya movement are preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Nivo News, Johnson stated that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has neither agreed to nor authorised any move to the APC by members of the movement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speculation has intensified in recent weeks amid reports of an internal crisis within the NNPP, particularly in Kano State, the party’s stronghold. There have been claims that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be considering a defection to the APC in early 2026. However, Johnson said the governor has not communicated any such intention to either the National Working Committee or the National Executive Committee of the party.

Speaking during a television interview, Johnson noted that Governor Yusuf recently participated in a party convention, adding that the leadership of the NNPP has not received any formal indication of his defection. He described reports suggesting that the people of Kano had collectively agreed for Kwankwaso and the governor to move to the APC as unfounded and misleading.

Johnson stressed that Kwankwaso remains firmly with the NNPP and has not given approval to any individual or group to defect to another political party. He described the ongoing tensions within the party as troubling, especially with the next general election less than a year away, and expressed concern over actions capable of weakening party unity.

He further warned that a defection to the APC would not automatically translate to political advantage, noting the intense competition within the ruling party. According to him, Governor Yusuf would face stiff opposition from established political figures and factions within the APC, including high-ranking aspirants with governorship ambitions.

Johnson added that any such move would significantly weaken the governor politically, as the broader Kwankwasiyya movement would not accompany him. He maintained that the NNPP remains united and committed to strengthening its structure ahead of future electoral contests.

Demola Olarenwaju, the Senior Political Assistant to the 2027 ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has demanded the dismissal of Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. This call to action follows allegations made by Adeniyi Matthew, who claims to be the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, accusing Gbajabiamila of participating in a bribery scandal regarding government appointments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Specifically, Matthew alleges that Gbajabiamila requested ₦27.4 billion from an agency grant and received ₦400 million via proxies to facilitate his appointment as the agency’s director-general. The presidency, through Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has officially refuted these claims, noting that both the individual and the agency in question have no official recognition by the government.

In response to the situation, Olarenwaju argued on that the Chief of Staff should be held accountable regardless of the validity of the underlying claims:

  • If Matthew managed to defraud the Nigerian budget, Olarenwaju asserts that Gbajabiamila should be removed from his position due to extreme negligence and failure to exercise proper due diligence.

  • If, however, evidence suggests that Gbajabiamila conspired with Matthew, Olarenwaju believes the Chief of Staff should face full prosecution.

  • Ultimately, Olarenwaju concluded that the Chief of Staff must face consequences in either scenario.
