In a statement signed by the Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, Adedayo Oketola, the electoral body clarified that any purported timetable issued outside its statutory framework should be disregarded. INEC emphasized that under Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, it is mandated to publish a Notice of Election no later than 360 days before a general election. Any schedule published outside this process does not originate from the Commission.
INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 elections would be released in due course through verified and official channels. The Commission urged the public and media to rely only on information from its established platforms to avoid spreading misinformation.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports claiming the Commission has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election. These reports are false and misleading,” the statement read.
