“Canada Deports 366 Nigerians in 2025, Nearly 1,000 More Await Removal”.
Canada deported 366 Nigerians between January and October 2025, as part of an intensified immigration enforcement campaign, according to Nivo News. The latest figures from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) also indicate that 974 Nigerians are currently awaiting deportation under the agency’s “removal in progress” inventory.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Data shows that Nigeria ranked ninth among the top 10 nationalities deported from Canada in 2025, marking an eight percent increase compared to 2019. Nigerian deportations have fluctuated in recent years, falling to 199 in 2022 after peaking at 339 in 2019. Nigeria did not feature in the top 10 in 2023 and 2024 but returned in 2025 with 366 removals in just ten months.
The CBSA enforcement drive is part of Canada’s broader immigration crackdown, which now removes nearly 400 foreign nationals weekly—the highest pace in over a decade. In the 2024–2025 fiscal year, Canada deported 18,048 individuals, spending approximately $78 million. Most deportees, about 83 percent, were failed refugee claimants, while criminality accounted for four percent of removals.
Canadian law stipulates three types of removal orders: departure orders requiring exit within 30 days, exclusion orders barring re-entry for one to five years, and deportation orders permanently barring return unless special authorization is granted. The government has also allocated $30.5 million over three years to strengthen removal operations and committed $1.3 billion to enhance border security.
Analysts have warned that deportations may increase further if Bill C-12, the so-called “border bill,” is passed, as it would restrict certain individuals from filing future refugee claims. Nigeria remains the only African country featured in the top 10 for both deportations and removals-in-progress.
Despite these removals, Canada remains a popular destination for Nigerians seeking better opportunities. Between 2016 and 2021, over 40,000 Nigerians migrated to Canada, making them the largest African immigrant group. In the first four months of 2024, 6,600 Nigerians obtained permanent residency, ranking fourth among international populations behind India, the Philippines, and China.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
