US Congressman Sounds Alarm Over Rising Threats To Christians In Nigeria.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, a United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has raised serious concerns over what he described as growing threats against Christians in Nigeria, warning that recent developments clearly point to religious persecution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Moore voiced his concerns in a post on X on Thursday night, reacting to reports allegedly linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which claimed that Christians across Nigeria had been declared legitimate targets. He stated that the reports should put to rest any lingering doubts about Christians being attacked specifically because of their faith.

The lawmaker dismissed alternative explanations often cited for the violence, insisting that the attacks were neither about land disputes nor environmental issues. Instead, he described the situation as a direct persecution of Christians for their belief in Jesus Christ.

Moore’s comments followed the circulation of posts alleging that ISWAP released images showing a Christian village in Adamawa State set ablaze, alongside a message urging Christians to convert to Islam or pay the jizyah tax to avoid bloodshed. He condemned the reported ultimatum, stressing that Christians would not renounce their faith under threat.

The alarm comes shortly after the United States carried out airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State. The operation, ordered by former U.S. President Donald Trump, was presented as a response to escalating attacks on Christians in Nigeria. Trump had earlier warned that continued violence against Christians would attract severe consequences, describing the strikes as a decisive action against ISIS elements.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed the airstrikes, explaining that they were executed under an established framework of security cooperation between Nigeria and its international partners. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that the operation targeted two major Islamic State enclaves within the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State.

He added that intelligence reports identified the locations as key assembly and staging points used by foreign ISIS fighters infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region. The air operation, carried out between 12:12 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on December 26, reportedly involved MQ-9 Reaper drones launched from maritime positions in the Gulf of Guinea, with 16 GPS-guided munitions deployed.

Authorities confirmed that while debris from the strikes landed in parts of Sokoto and Kwara states, no civilian casualties were recorded.
