APC Chieftain Declares Fubara’s Defection Illegal, Lacks Legal Recognition.

According to Nivo News, Rivers State APC chieftain Tonye Cole has rejected the reported defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the All Progressives Congress, insisting that the faction which received him lacks legal recognition.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Arise News on Thursday, Cole expressed concern that the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State could undermine democratic norms. He argued that while Fubara presented himself as the leader of the APC in the state, the faction that welcomed him is not the one recognised by law.

Cole cited a court judgment that, he said, invalidated the emergence of the current factional leadership in Rivers, led by Tony Okocha. He warned that disregarding such legal rulings while allowing political manoeuvres to proceed unchecked could set a dangerous precedent.

“Governor Fubara, as leader of APC in this context, is not recognised as the state leader under the law,” Cole stated. He emphasised that his faction remains the only legally recognised APC in Rivers State, regardless of endorsements from national or internal party figures.

Cole concluded that the matter will ultimately be resolved through legal judgment, stressing the need for adherence to the rule of law in party leadership disputes.
