Court Orders Arrest Of Ondo Women Affairs Commissioner Over Alleged Assault.
According to Nivo News, an Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered the arrest and remand of the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Seun Osamaye, over an alleged assault involving a serving chief magistrate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The court action follows allegations that Osamaye verbally and physically assaulted Chief Magistrate Temitope Alphonso during an official visit to the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs. The incident reportedly occurred after a judicial decision that the commissioner was said to have considered unfavourable.
Court filings indicate that the police charged the commissioner with assault based on complaints arising from the incident. When the matter was called on Wednesday, Osamaye was absent from court but was represented by her counsel, A.K. Adewusi, who informed the magistrate that his client was receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area.
The defence requested a 90-minute stand-down to enable the presentation of a medical report, a request granted by the court. Upon resumption, a medical document was submitted, indicating that the commissioner was undergoing treatment.
However, the prosecution, led by Suleiman Adebayo, disputed the authenticity and reliability of the medical report, urging the court to disregard it. In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni upheld the prosecution’s objection, noting that the document failed to establish that the commissioner was admitted or medically unfit to appear in court.
The magistrate further observed that the report did not state the date or time of any hospital admission, describing it as incomplete and inadequate. Citing what he described as a disregard for court proceedings, Magistrate Sekoni ordered the immediate arrest and remand of the commissioner in a correctional facility.
The case was subsequently adjourned until January 12 for further hearing.
