Otti Vows To Stay In Labour Party Despite Peter Obi’s Exit Plans.
According to Nivo News, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has dismissed speculation that he might defect from the Labour Party (LP) despite reports that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, intends to leave the platform. The governor revealed that Obi personally informed him of his decision to exit the LP, to which he expressed understanding and support. However, Otti clarified that his political path would remain independent, noting that he joined the Labour Party prior to Obi and would continue his efforts to reposition the party for future relevance.
“This is the party that brought me to power. I will stay and work to rescue and reposition the Labour Party. Only after that can we discuss other possibilities. For now, I am not defecting,” Otti said.
He also responded to calls from the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urging him to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that he would not be drawn into political distractions. Otti commended Kalu for distributing financial aid to vulnerable residents, aligning with his administration’s ongoing support for the less privileged, but reaffirmed his focus on governance rather than political provocations.
Quoting former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Otti said, “You will never get to your destination if you stop to throw stones at every dog that barks,” underlining his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Abia State residents over political noise.
