NSCDC Arrests Suspected Oil Installation Vandal In Edo State.

Operatives of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a suspected oil installation vandal, Ossa Wilfred. The State Commandant, Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, disclosed the arrest on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, during a parade in Benin City.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ayinla stated that the suspect, a casual worker with Gladtrico Company, was apprehended on December 25 at around 2:00 p.m. while allegedly vandalizing an oil wellhead at OML 98, Ossiomo Manifold, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. According to the NSCDC, three individuals were involved in the act, but two fled the scene following a warning shot from the patrol team, leaving Wilfred in custody.

Preliminary investigations identified one of the fleeing suspects as Kelvin, a casual worker with Lee Engineering and a member of the host community, while the third suspect is believed to be a local resident of Ologbo. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, and those found guilty will face prosecution upon completion of investigations.

The NSCDC commandant emphasized that Wilfred and exhibits recovered at the scene have been transferred to the state command for detailed examination. Ayinla issued a stern warning to vandals and economic saboteurs, stressing that destruction of critical national assets will be met with the full force of the law. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting oil and gas facilities and other vital infrastructure in Edo State and called on local communities to provide timely and credible information to support security efforts.

News reports that the incident, which occurred on April 9, 2026, claimed the lives of the senior officer and several other soldiers.

A family source told Vanguard that the General was speaking with his identical twin brother, who resides in the United Kingdom, at the time of the attack.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
