Borno Police Deny Army Claim, Confirm Suspected Bomber Arrest Without IEDs.
According to Nivo News, the Borno State Police Command has clarified reports claiming that the Nigerian Army arrested a suspected suicide bomber in the state, asserting that the operation was conducted solely by the police and that no active improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Earlier reports suggested that troops of Operation Hadin Kai had apprehended a suspect, Abubakar Mustapha, in Bama Local Government Area. The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, had stated that the arrest followed intelligence-led operations and that the suspect was allegedly found with primed IED components.
However, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Daso corrected the account, revealing that the suspect is in police custody and that the items seized—comprising electrical wires, old mobile phone batteries, gadget scraps, and pairs of shoes—do not constitute IEDs. He emphasized that the arrest was a police-led operation and warned the public against spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary fear.
Daso further stated that preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s intentions and any possible affiliations, with the case now under comprehensive review at the State Command Headquarters. He urged residents to rely only on verified information from official sources.
The clarification comes amid heightened security concerns in Borno State, following a recent suicide bombing at the Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which left five worshippers dead and 35 others injured.
