Plateau Task Force Rescues Dozens Of Minors From Brothels, Evacuates Drug Addicts.
The Plateau State government conducted extensive raids on brothels and hotels along the Jos-Bukuru axis on Tuesday, December 30, rescuing dozens of teenage girls trapped in prostitution and evacuating drug addicts and other criminal elements operating from these establishments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The operation was carried out by the Task Force Committee on Human Trafficking in collaboration with officials from the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, NAPTIP, the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force.
Briefing journalists, the Plateau State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Barr. Philemon Audu Daffi, described the situation as a painful indictment of societal failure. He revealed that some of the rescued victims were as young as 11 years old and were coerced into sexual exploitation. Among those rescued were girls with disabilities, a breastfeeding mother, and a pregnant woman.
“Preliminary findings indicate a pattern of minors being drugged and exploited, often late at night in unsafe environments. Many of these young people did not choose this path freely; insecurity, economic hardship, broken homes, and neglect have all contributed,” Daffi said. He urged authorities to ensure that the rescued victims are given proper care and support for a future away from exploitation.
Mrs. Vivien Ebere Festus, Chairperson of NACTAL in Plateau State, emphasized the need for parents and guardians to assume greater responsibility for their children, noting that these minors should be in school rather than exposed to such risks. David Nenfort Yilji, Secretary of the Committee, warned hotel operators that establishments found harboring minors would be shut down, expressing confidence that the intervention could positively redirect the lives of the rescued victims.
