Bishop Adeoye Reveals Most Nigerian Pastors Are Financially Struggling.
According to Nivo News, Bishop Seun Adeoye, an Osun-based cleric, has revealed that the majority of Nigerian pastors face significant financial struggles, contrary to the widespread belief that most live affluent lifestyles. He stated that fewer than two percent of pastors in the country could be considered wealthy, noting that public assumptions about clergy affluence have created undue pressure and suspicion toward Christian ministers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Adeoye made the disclosure in Okinni on Sunday during the unveiling of his ministry’s 2026 watchword, addressing church members and guests. Serving also as Acting Nuncio of the World Bishops Council in Africa and International Communications Director of the Worldwide Anglican Church, he described the notion that pastors are rich as misleading and harmful.
“It is an erroneous belief and a satanic attack on the Church to assume that all pastors are rich because of tithes and offerings,” Adeoye said. While acknowledging that some ministers in Nigeria are wealthy, he emphasized that they represent a very small fraction of the clergy, and their wealth may not necessarily come from tithes or offerings.
The cleric criticized affluent church leaders for becoming disconnected from less privileged ministers. “Unfortunately, these wealthy General Overseers and pastors have built tall walls around themselves, publicly showcasing their affluence but ignoring the cries of ministers of God struggling for survival. We have seen millions donated to a university zoo to feed animals while tens of thousands of genuine men of God and their families were dying of hunger,” he stated.
Adeoye urged wealthy pastors to support struggling colleagues, saying, “When you are raised up by God’s grace, you should look down and lend helping hands to others in need. That is the character of Jesus Christ.” He also referenced the parable of the Good Samaritan, encouraging church leaders to reflect on how many pastors they have helped outside their ministries.
Finally, Adeoye called on Nigerians to prepare for 2026 as a year of “Forward Movement” and encouraged Christians to expect God’s blessings in the coming year.
