Nearly 3,000 Subscribers Abandon T2 Despite Major Rebrand, NCC Data Reveals

Published

on

According to Nivo News, approximately 2,725 subscribers abandoned T2, formerly 9mobile, between August and October 2025, despite the network’s recent rebranding. The latest Mobile Number Portability (MNP) data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) revealed that 1,111 users left T2 in August, 724 in September, and 890 in October, while only 61 subscribers joined during the same period, resulting in a net loss of 2,664 customers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The data indicates that the rebrand has not curbed the steady outflow of subscribers. In October alone, T2 accounted for over half of all industry-wide exits, surpassing competitors such as Airtel, Globacom, and MTN. The trend has been consistent throughout 2025, with significant subscriber departures recorded each month, from 6,716 in January to 890 in October. Meanwhile, the network attracted very few new subscribers, with only 26 porting in during October.

The exodus reflects ongoing customer dissatisfaction despite strategic efforts to revamp the company’s brand, leadership, and services. Following the 2023 acquisition of 9mobile by Lighthouse Telecoms, T2 implemented a four-phase recovery plan—Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth—overhauling its board, leadership team, and signing a three-year national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria to expand coverage and service quality.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, had welcomed the rebrand, urging the company to ensure tangible improvements in network performance. However, NCC data suggest that T2 continues to lead the industry in subscriber outflow, highlighting the challenges the operator faces in retaining customers despite its efforts to modernize and collaborate with competitors.
