NDLEA Nabs Repeat Drug Trafficker Over UK-Bound Cocaine Hidden In Starch Sachets.
According to Nivo News, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious drug trafficker, Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, alongside three other suspects, over an attempt to export cocaine concealed in factory-sealed sachets of cold-water starch to the United Kingdom.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The arrest followed the seizure of 75 wraps of cocaine weighing about 1.50 kilograms at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. NDLEA operatives initially apprehended three cargo agents allegedly involved in processing the consignment for export before further investigations uncovered Basil as the alleged mastermind behind the operation. He was later tracked and arrested at a relaxation centre in Ikeja.
Checks by the agency revealed that Basil had previously been arrested in May 2023 in connection with the trafficking of 30.10 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in powdered custard containers bound for the UK. He was subsequently convicted by a Federal High Court and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦7 million fine and community service, which he reportedly paid before returning to drug trafficking.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives destroyed large quantities of skunk, a strain of cannabis, and makeshift warehouses in a forest in Ara-Ekiti, where hundreds of kilograms of the substance were also recovered. Another interception along the Igara-Auchi road in Edo State led to the recovery of over 1,200 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing more than 880 kilograms from three vehicles.
Similarly, coordinated raids in Cross River State resulted in the arrest of three suspects with substantial quantities of skunk, while another suspect was apprehended along the Abaji–Abuja expressway with several kilograms of the same substance. In Gombe State, a commercial driver was arrested while conveying large quantities of pentazocine injections, tramadol tablets and other opioids en route to Borno State.
The agency also confirmed the arrest of a businessman wanted in connection with the seizure of multiple parcels of high-grade cannabis at the Tincan seaport in Lagos, following a joint examination of a container by security agencies.
Commending the operatives for their sustained efforts, the Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), urged officers to remain vigilant during the festive season and beyond, while maintaining professionalism in the ongoing fight against illicit drug trafficking.
