Controversy In Judiciary: Corruption Allegations Knock 34 Nominees Out Of Appointment.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the National Judicial Council (NJC) has revealed that 34 nominees, including a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), failed the judges’ appointment integrity screening conducted by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC). The Council stated this in a release on Sunday in Abuja, noting that while 62 candidates initially passed the Computer-Based Test (CBT) administered by the Federal High Court, only 28 successfully cleared the integrity assessment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The NJC explained that the candidates who passed the CBT were submitted to the FJSC for further scrutiny in accordance with the integrity policy introduced by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. Under this policy, the public was invited to provide feedback on the reputation, integrity, and suitability of nominees for judicial appointments.

One petition, reportedly submitted by a legal practitioner on behalf of a client, accused the CSP of soliciting bribes while serving as Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Section at Zone 7 Police Command, Abuja. The petition alleged that the officer refused to grant bail during a court enforcement exercise unless N1 million was paid through an intermediary account, and that the funds were later traced to the CSP’s account. The petitioners commended the NJC for its integrity screening, stating that rejecting corrupt nominees is vital for restoring public confidence in the judiciary.

Following the public feedback, the FJSC forwarded only 28 names to the NJC, with the remaining 34 nominees failing the integrity test. NJC Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe, confirmed that the Council will meet on January 13 and 14 to review the selection process, during which the 28 shortlisted nominees will face the Council’s interview panel. She emphasized that transparency and judicial integrity remain key priorities under Chief Justice Kekere-Ekun’s administration.

Tinubu Will Still Win 2027 Despite Poor Performance – APC Chieftain Yusuf Claims.

Published

on

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Abubakar Yusuf, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, despite what he described as the current government’s underwhelming performance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former federal lawmaker argued that Tinubu’s re-election is likely because the opposition lacks unity and cannot mount a strong challenge.

He said he does not expect opposition politicians to come together in a way that could threaten the president’s chances.

According to him, “APC will win in 2027, not because President Tinubu has done well, but because there is no opposition. There is no challenge in the opposition. Individually, they are very credible, but as a team, I don’t see them working together. Tinubu will more likely win in the 2027 election.”

Yusuf added that the ruling party is not worried about the opposition due to its fragmented nature.

However, he cautioned President Tinubu against relying heavily on APC governors for electoral support, warning that many of them may not have strong grassroots popularity.

He also warned that internal disagreements within the party, especially over candidate selection, could trigger serious conflicts and weaken the APC if not properly handled.

“APC is not jittery because we don’t have a challenge. What we should worry about is an intra-party crisis. There may be implosions if care is not taken. If they insist on an automatic ticket, they will lose many members to other parties. There will be implosions if they refuse to allow free and fair elections,” he said.

Yusuf further advised the president not to overestimate the influence of some governors, adding that several of them are not widely popular among voters.
