Nigeria Cannot Exist Without Security, Fayose Declares

Speaking during an interview on TVC, Fayose warned that insecurity in any part of Nigeria—whether in the North, South, East or West—poses a direct threat to the entire country. He emphasized that security must always take precedence in national priorities.
“A nation that is not secured is no nation. It does not matter where the challenge is coming from. Security comes first,” Fayose said.
He explained that this reality is reflected in government spending, noting that security consistently accounts for a significant portion of national budgets because the protection of lives and property remains paramount.
“That is why when budgets are prepared, allocations for security are always substantial. The people matter, and the security of the people is all that matters,” he stated.
Fayose also welcomed recent international security interventions aimed at terrorist groups, expressing relief over reports that the operations were effective and did not result in civilian casualties. He described the actions as a positive step toward restoring peace and stability.
“I thank God for an intervention that is capable of dealing with ISIS and related organisations that have refused to allow Nigerians to sleep. From what I read, there were no casualties, but there were intense efforts to hit these terrorist groups. To me, that is a welcoming development,” he said.
Addressing concerns about national sovereignty and allegations of religious bias, Fayose dismissed such arguments as misplaced sentiments, urging Nigerians to focus on the core issues affecting national survival.
He stressed that the operations were not directed at any religious group but at enemies of the state threatening Nigeria’s territorial integrity and stability, adding that security forces do not discriminate on the basis of religion.
“There is no way anyone can tell whether you are a Muslim or a Christian. What matters is that these enemies of Nigeria are eliminated,” Fayose said.
He concluded by asserting that no responsible leader would compromise national security for religious or political considerations, maintaining that eliminating threats to the country remains paramount.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani announced during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that his administration has not acquired any new loans since he took office, despite allocating approximately ₦6.7 billion monthly to service heavy debts left behind by past administrations. Attributing the administration’s financial stability to fiscal prudence and strategic project prioritization, Sani stated:
“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo. It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money.”
In addition to fiscal matters, the governor highlighted advancements across sectors including agriculture, education, infrastructure, security, and skills development. Addressing the state’s out-of-school children challenge, Sani noted that a comprehensive government household-mapping initiative uncovered roughly 550,000 children previously out of school, allowing the state to leverage reliable data rather than estimates and successfully return over 300,000 of them back to the classroom as interventions continue.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to fully reopen Nigeria’s land borders if elected in 2027, arguing that current restrictions have crippled legitimate transborder commerce and left many young entrepreneurs bankrupt. Beyond border reopening, Atiku outlined plans to upgrade southern port infrastructure in locations such as Calabar, Uyo, and Port Harcourt to ease the logistics bottleneck. Drawing on his experience running a factory in Yola, he pointed out that transporting containers from Lagos to the North-East takes up to two months due to poor roads and long distances, whereas shipments from southern ports could reach Yola in just 24 hours if proper infrastructure were established.
