Naira Under Pressure As Dollar Trades Near ₦1,480 At Black Market.
According to Nivo News, the naira continued to trade weakly against the United States dollar at the parallel foreign exchange market on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, reflecting sustained pressure on the local currency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Checks from market operators indicate that the dollar exchanged at ₦1,477 for sales and ₦1,475 for purchases at the Lagos parallel market, popularly known as the black market. This rate represents the prevailing price at which individuals were able to exchange dollars for naira during the trading session.
Market insights further note that activities in the parallel market remain outside the regulatory framework of the Central Bank of Nigeria, which has consistently maintained that it does not recognize transactions conducted through unofficial channels. The apex bank has repeatedly advised Nigerians seeking foreign exchange to route their demands through authorized commercial banks.
Meanwhile, data from the official foreign exchange window show a lower trading band for the dollar. At the CBN window, the dollar traded within a range of ₦1,447 to ₦1,455 against the naira, highlighting the persistent gap between official and parallel market rates.
Currency traders caution that exchange rates may differ across locations and time due to market volatility and demand dynamics, noting that actual buying or selling prices are often subject to negotiation and real-time market forces.

MIDNIGHT ROBBERY: How ‘Yahoo Boys’ Defrauded A Judge Of ₦7.2 Million In A Single Night!.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede recently shared the story of how suspected internet fraudsters managed to steal over ₦7.2 million from a serving judge’s bank account overnight. The funds had been saved by the judge over a period of six years specifically for her child’s education.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The incident came to light during the public presentation of two books authored by retired High Court judge, Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye. According to Olukoyede, the judge contacted him at approximately 1 a.m. after being awakened by multiple debit alerts. Interestingly, this crime occurred in a state where a court order had previously restricted the EFCC from investigating certain financial crimes. When the chairman reminded the judge of this legal barrier, she insisted that his agency must intervene immediately, treating the situation as an exception.
The EFCC successfully tracked and recovered the full ₦7.2 million by the end of the business day. Olukoyede expressed his belief that this experience, having turned the judge into a victim, would likely influence her to dismiss any future applications aimed at hindering the commission’s mandate.
Highlighting the gravity of cybercrime, the EFCC chairman stressed that overcoming this challenge requires a unified effort from security agencies, the judiciary, and the general public. Additionally, Olukoyede noted that while the commission has begun utilizing artificial intelligence for criminal investigations, there is an urgent need for legal reforms to ensure that AI-generated evidence is admissible in court. During the same event, former Attorney-General Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) called for anti-graft agencies to increase their efforts in recovering public funds that have been stolen and moved abroad.
