Malami Blasts EFCC For Defying Court, Accuses Agency Of Illegal Detention.

Published

Immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of defying a court order granting him bail. According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami claimed the anti-graft agency subjected him to unlawful detention and a media trial.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Malami alleged that despite fulfilling all conditions for bail, the EFCC ignored a valid order from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which had granted him interim bail on December 23, 2025. The court had reportedly ruled that the former AGF met all bail conditions and should be released pending further proceedings, with the case adjourned to January.

However, Malami’s office stated that EFCC officials refused to accept the court documents and turned away the court bailiff, insisting on keeping him in custody. The statement highlighted that Malami has now spent over 14 days in detention without being arraigned before a competent court, describing the development as unconstitutional and oppressive.

The ex-minister also accused the EFCC of orchestrating selective media briefings intended to shape public opinion against him, calling it a media trial in the absence of judicial backing. “Court orders are not advisory. They are binding on all authorities,” the statement added. The EFCC had not responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.

    • Goje noted that the other abducted girls were rescued prior to the start of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration in 2019, making the incident a matter of the past for the current state government.

    • Leah Sharibu was one of 110 girls kidnapped by insurgents in February 2018; while most of her classmates were released a month later, she was reportedly kept in captivity due to her refusal to renounce her Christian faith.

    • Despite ongoing government assurances, Sharibu remains the only student from the group still in captivity more than eight years after the abduction.

    • Regarding the state’s security, Goje claimed that the Buni administration has made significant progress since 2019, making all local government areas in Yobe accessible to both citizens and humanitarian aid.

    • This improvement in safety has enabled many displaced residents to return to their communities, where the government has focused on rebuilding infrastructure and providing support in healthcare, education, and agriculture.

    • Furthermore, Yobe has become the first state in Nigeria to implement the National Internally Displaced Persons Policy, providing residents with the flexibility to decide whether to return to their ancestral homes or relocate elsewhere while receiving continued government support.
