The governor, through a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by his lawyer R.I.D. Okezie, Esq., also called for a public apology from Aziegbemi to be published in three national newspapers. The correspondence, titled “Demand for Damages and Apologies for Defamation of the Character of the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo,” gives the PDP chairman a seven-day ultimatum to comply.

According to the letter, Governor Okpebholo’s legal team cited a press release issued by Aziegbemi on January 7, 2025, which was widely circulated in newspapers and online platforms. The letter claims the release contained statements that disparaged and ridiculed the governor’s reputation and the office he holds, undermining his longstanding public image as a responsible politician dating back to his tenure as a senator in the National Assembly.

The governor’s demand underscores his intention to protect his personal and official integrity and to seek accountability for statements perceived as damaging to his character.
