US Bars Nigerians From Multiple Visas; Sani Calls For National Self-Reliance.

Published

on

Prominent Nigerian lawmaker Shehu Sani has urged citizens to focus on developing their country as a response to the recent visa restrictions imposed by the United States. The restrictions, announced on the White House website, bar Nigerians from entering the US on multiple visa categories, including B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J visas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This new measure expands on an earlier partial restriction that targeted individuals linked to religious persecution. The latest restrictions, however, affect all Nigerian visa applicants across the specified categories. The US government cited security concerns, challenges in vetting applicants, high visa overstay rates, and the activities of radical Islamist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP as reasons for the restrictions. Data indicate that Nigeria recorded 5.56% overstays on B-1/B-2 visas and 11.9% on F, M, and J visas.

Of the 24 countries affected globally, 17 are in Africa, three in Asia, three in the Caribbean and Oceania, and one in the Middle East. The disproportionate impact on African nations appears to have influenced Sani’s view that citizens should invest their energy in national development rather than seeking opportunities abroad. He argued that the visa restrictions reflect the broader consequences of weak leadership and underdevelopment in third-world countries.

Experts note that while Sani’s advice underscores the importance of domestic development, immediate implementation is challenging given the interconnected nature of the global economy and the economic disparities between developed and developing nations. The restrictions serve as a stark reminder of how third-world citizens often migrate in search of better living standards due to limited opportunities at home, highlighting both systemic governance failures and unutilized natural and human resources.

The US restrictions have far-reaching implications for Nigerians, affecting access to education, exchange programs, and participation in the US economy. Citizens may face increased scrutiny, longer processing times, and higher rates of visa denials. While the US is within its rights to control entry into its territory, the measures carry potential reputational and developmental consequences for Nigeria.

Sani emphasized that addressing the underlying causes—such as unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, and governance focused on personal or ethnic interests—is crucial to reversing the trend. He suggested that meaningful reforms could reduce the need for citizens to migrate and restore Nigeria’s standing in international mobility. For now, Nigerians must navigate the immediate challenges posed by the restrictions while the government works to address the developmental gaps that perpetuate the cycle of migration and visa overstays.

  • New controversy surrounds Prince Matthew Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of operating a fake federal agency, as reports emerge that he was previously fired from a role as an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for alleged corrupt practices.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the unrecognized Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), is currently under investigation by the Presidency for operating a fictitious entity and falsely claiming an association with Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff.

    • The Presidency has officially disavowed Adeyemi and emphasized the urgent need for security agencies to dismantle the internal network that facilitated his activities.

    • Sources indicate that Adeyemi served as a Senior Special Assistant on Protocol for Governor Adeleke in 2023, where he was tasked with managing visa and travel documentation.

    • His tenure reportedly ended after four months when the French Embassy contacted the Osun State Government regarding a letter the administration had no record of sending.

    • An internal investigation allegedly revealed that Adeyemi had forged Governor Adeleke’s signature on official correspondence to the embassy to pursue personal fraudulent interests.

    • Following the discovery, the Governor reportedly ordered the Secretary to the State Government to dismiss Adeyemi immediately, though he opted not to pursue legal prosecution at the time to maintain focus on his administration.

    • While the Presidency maintains that the PFIPC does not exist, Adeyemi continues to assert that his appointment is legitimate and has leveled counter-accusations of corruption against the Chief of Staff, claims which the Presidency has rejected.

    • He contended that public officials lack the incentive to upgrade local institutions as long as their own families are shielded from the poor conditions of the domestic public school system.

    • Nnani concluded by encouraging Nigerians to put pressure on the legislative arm, specifically senators and representatives, to force a change that aligns the interests of leaders with the quality of local education.
