The arrest took place on December 21, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at Vaase Community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, carried out by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari. The Brigade confirmed that Gayama, a high-value target, had been on the watchlist of security agencies for some time.
Security officials further stated that personnel from the Nigeria Police Force at the Vaase Outpost identified Gayama as one of the individuals declared wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum. He is currently in military custody and is expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that Gayama is closely linked with Aka Dogo, a wanted leader of another criminal group. He is believed to have masterminded a network responsible for terrorizing commuters and residents along the Kente–Wukari Road and other border communities between Benue and Taraba states.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their professionalism, describing the arrest as a major setback to criminal networks in the region. He also reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
