The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, confirmed the initiative in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin. According to the statement, the Command has increased both land and water patrols around the clock to deter criminal activities and protect vessels, cargo, port facilities, and other critical maritime infrastructure during the festive period.

Agbaminoja emphasized that the heightened security efforts are aimed at safeguarding port users, maritime stakeholders, and national economic assets, particularly as port activities intensify during the holidays. The measures cover Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, and marine patrol routes extending up to 12 nautical miles.

The commissioner explained that the strategy is designed to ensure uninterrupted port operations amid the surge in human and vehicular traffic typically seen during the festive season. She also highlighted strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, and Port Facility Security Officers to enable rapid and coordinated responses to any security threats.

Additional personnel have been deployed to congestion-prone areas, while intelligence gathering and surveillance activities have been enhanced to proactively identify and neutralize potential threats to port safety and national economic interests.

Agbaminoja urged port users to stay vigilant, follow security protocols, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest Port Police Division or Marine Unit. She reassured the public and maritime stakeholders that the Command remains committed to maintaining safety, security, and seamless operations across all Lagos port corridors during the Yuletide period and beyond.
