“Enough Is Enough”: Plateau Youths Urged To Defend Themselves Amid Rising Killings.
According to Nivo News, the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Barrister Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, has urged youths in crisis-hit communities of Plateau State, particularly in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, to rise and defend their people whenever bandits and terrorists strike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Mwantiri made the call during an emotional address at the mass burial of 12 miners who were brutally killed by gunmen at a mining site in the Ratoso community of Fann District. He lamented that repeated attacks and killings had continued unchecked, stressing that the failure of the federal and state governments, alongside security agencies, had left residents with no choice but to protect themselves.
Speaking before grieving families, community leaders, clergymen and political figures, the BYM leader said it was unacceptable that communities were constantly gathering to bury their young people while authorities remained silent. He noted that such silence only emboldened attackers to continue their violence.
Mwantiri described the slain miners as hardworking young men who were independent and responsible for their families, lamenting that no meaningful support or consolation had come from the authorities. He warned that the people had been pushed to the brink and could no longer endure the situation.
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Plateau State Governor, the Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and all security agencies to act decisively, insisting that the killings must stop. According to him, the attackers only understand force, and continued inaction could compel communities to respond in kind.
The BYM President said the government must either decisively flush out the terrorist elements operating in the state or risk leaving residents with no option but to defend themselves to survive. He cautioned that while resorting to violence was undesirable, persistent neglect by authorities could force communities into desperate measures.
Addressing religious leaders and politicians present, Mwantiri urged them to set aside politics and unite for the survival of their people, noting that attackers do not discriminate based on political affiliation. He appealed for collective action, including peaceful protests, to draw attention to the ongoing killings and insecurity in the area.
He also expressed concern over what he described as unequal responses by authorities to attacks affecting different groups, urging security agencies to act fairly and decisively. Concluding his remarks, Mwantiri called for urgent international support to dismantle terrorist enclaves in Plateau State, warning that without swift action, the continued violence could threaten the survival of innocent citizens.
