Senior Police Officers Elevated As PSC Concludes Rigorous Promotion Exercise.

The approvals were granted after the officers successfully underwent rigorous written examinations and oral interviews, which were concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the commission’s corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. The exercise was supervised by the Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu.
A statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the commission confirmed that Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usman Gumel was among those elevated. Prior to his promotion, Gumel served as the Assistant Inspector-General overseeing the Community Policing Project Department, Research and Planning at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The commission also approved the promotion of seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, further strengthening the leadership structure of the force.
In addition, three Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police as part of the exercise.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the PSC Chairman charged them to approach their new ranks with a renewed sense of duty and responsibility to the nation. He stressed that promotion carries greater expectations and urged the officers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and commitment to effective policing.
Argungu further emphasized the importance of safeguarding lives and property, enforcing law and order, and upholding public trust, while reaffirming the commission’s commitment to regular, transparent, and merit-driven promotions in line with global best practices.

The tournament, organised by FIFA, will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico starting 11 June.
Trump made the remarks on Thursday, March 12, amid rising tensions following U.S. and Israeli military strikes in Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several Gulf states hosting American military bases, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
“The Iran national soccer team is welcome to the World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The comments came shortly after Iran’s Sports and Youth Minister, Ahmad Donyamali, hinted that the team might withdraw from the tournament. Speaking to IRIB Sports Network on Tuesday, Donyamali said:
“Given that this corrupt government has assassinated our leader, under no circumstances do we have the appropriate conditions to participate in the World Cup. Our boys are not safe, and conditions for participation do not exist.”
Iran was scheduled to face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles on 15 and 21 June, respectively, before playing Egypt in Seattle on 26 June.
Earlier this week, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that Trump had indicated Iran would still be “welcome to compete” at the World Cup.
If Iran ultimately withdraws from what would have been its fourth consecutive World Cup, FIFA regulations allow the governing body to select a replacement team. It remains unclear which nation could fill the spot.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has warned that it could take action against five domestic airlines for allegedly inflating ticket prices during the 2025 Christmas and New Year travel period.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The move comes after numerous complaints from travellers who paid far higher fares than usual during the festive season.
Tunji Bello, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the FCCPC, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. He explained that the commission launched an investigation following reports of steep price increases on several domestic routes.
“Ticket prices that normally ranged between ₦45,000 and ₦50,000 suddenly surged to between ₦400,000 and ₦670,000 during the Christmas period,” Bello said. “Our investigation indicates there may have been a coordinated price-fixing mechanism.”
He added that the FCCPC is reviewing possible enforcement actions, including the option of requiring airlines to refund passengers who paid inflated fares.
An interim report released two weeks ago revealed that fares during the December 2025 peak travel period were significantly higher than those in January 2026, despite stable fuel costs, regulatory charges, and exchange rates. On some routes, the difference between peak and off-peak prices ranged from ₦405,000 to ₦650,000 per passenger.
Bello emphasized that while seasonal demand and operational factors can affect ticket pricing, the commission is examining whether these practices violated the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act on anti-competitive agreements and price fixing. “Consumer rights must be respected, as guaranteed under the FCCPA,” he stated.
FCCPC Also Reviewing Foreign Airlines
Bello noted that the commission is also assessing the pricing practices of foreign airlines operating into Nigeria. He said the FCCPC collaborates with other regulatory agencies, including NAFDAC, SON, NCC, and NERC, to enforce consumer protection and competition laws across sectors.
Louis Odion, FCCPC Executive Commissioner for Operations, clarified that the agency does not control prices directly. “We are not a price control body, but we ensure consumers are not exploited through unfair pricing practices,” he said, adding that monitoring across sectors would continue.
The campaign organisation of former Senator Iyiola Omisore has confirmed that he has withdrawn a lawsuit he filed over the disqualification of several governorship aspirants on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform ahead of the party’s Osun State governorship primary.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The statement, issued on Thursday in Osogbo and signed by the campaign’s Director-General, Ajibola Famurewa, clarified that the suit—FHC/OS/CS/261/2025, Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR—was initially filed after seven of eight governorship aspirants were reportedly disqualified by the party’s screening panel.
The legal action was intended to challenge the validity of the screening committee’s decision, which the campaign claimed violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The clarification came after reports of Omisore’s suit resurfaced, sparking concern within the party as preparations for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State intensify.
In the originating summons dated December 9, 2025, Omisore asked the Federal High Court in Osogbo to determine whether the APC could impose additional qualification or disqualification criteria on aspirants beyond those outlined in the 1999 Constitution. He sought a declaration that the party could not lawfully disqualify him, given that he met the constitutional requirements under Sections 177 and 182.
The summons also requested the court to nullify the alleged disqualification and compel the APC to recognise him as a governorship aspirant. Additionally, Omisore sought an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any APC primary election held to nominate a candidate for the governorship. The suit was filed by his lawyer, Kolawole Salami, before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi of the Federal High Court.
The case gained public attention after a court log listing matters scheduled for March 2 appeared on social media, showing Omisore’s matter as the 11th case of the day.
However, Omisore’s campaign organisation confirmed that the suit has since been withdrawn following interventions by key APC leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and elder statesman Bisi Akande.
The statement read: “Upon the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, and other well-meaning leaders, Senator Omisore engaged the media on national television to confirm his acceptance of the party’s decision and to honour Mr. President.”
The campaign group also accused some individuals of misrepresenting the situation to create tension within the party and urged APC members and the public to disregard reports suggesting that the suit was still pending.
It further called on party members to unite and work together ahead of the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
