Security, Infrastructure Top Agenda As Tinubu Submits ₦54.46 Trillion Budget.

According to Nivo News, the proposed budget allocates ₦15.25 trillion to recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, while capital expenditure is pegged at ₦26.08 trillion, reflecting the administration’s focus on economic growth and infrastructure development.

The President set the crude oil benchmark for the 2026 fiscal year at US$64.85 per barrel, with daily oil production projected at 1.84 million barrels. The exchange rate assumption for the budget was fixed at ₦1,400 to one US Dollar.

Details of the spending framework show that defence and security received the largest allocation at ₦5.41 trillion, underscoring the government’s emphasis on national security. Infrastructure followed closely with a proposed ₦3.56 trillion allocation.

Education was earmarked ₦3.52 trillion, while the health sector is set to receive ₦2.48 trillion under the proposal, which the President described as the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity.”

More details are expected to emerge as lawmakers begin deliberations on the spending plan.

The former Vice President labeled the President’s comments as the “lamentation of a drowning man,” accusing him of using rhetoric to distract citizens from his administration’s poor performance and criticizing the timing of the remarks in the face of calls for free and fair elections.
