Adoke Exposes Obasanjo’s Role In OPL 245 Revocation, Says Former President Refused To Apologise.
A former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Adoke, has alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo revoked the Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 245 in July 2001 and subsequently awarded it to Shell after the block’s owners declined to cede a 60 percent stake.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at a recent reading of his new book, “OPL 245: The Inside Story of the $1.3bn Nigerian Oil Block,” Adoke claimed that influential individuals pursued the proceeds of the oil block, creating a “dog-eat-dog” scenario that ultimately led to the licence’s revocation.
According to reports, OPL 245 was originally awarded to Malabu in 1998 under the late Sani Abacha’s regime. The block later became the center of global corruption investigations, criminal prosecutions, and civil lawsuits after Malabu sold its entire interest to Shell and Eni for $1.1 billion in 2011. The oil firms also paid $210 million as a signature bonus to the Nigerian government.
Obasanjo reportedly revoked OPL 245’s license due to irregularities in its original allocation and opaque shareholding linked to former Petroleum Minister Dan Etete, who had fronted the Malabu deal. In 2017, Obasanjo denied any knowledge of the transaction.
Adoke, who faced criminal charges related to the saga filed by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, was eventually discharged and acquitted by two federal high courts in Abuja.
During his book reading, Adoke said that Obasanjo had promised to apologise if Adoke could provide evidence of his approval for the deal, but failed to do so when the documents were made public.
“Some people in government wanted to acquire a 60 percent stake in OPL 245, but the owners refused. That was the real reason for the revocation. Those interested parties were known associates of Obasanjo and Atiku… but I don’t want to ruffle any feathers,” Adoke stated.
He added that the former president’s actions reflected poor judgment, saying, “He didn’t act in the best interest of Nigeria.” Adoke suggested that Obasanjo’s denial of his approval could be attributed to amnesia, emphasizing that the former president signed the resolution agreement.
“He had said, ‘If Adoke can show that I gave the approval, I would apologise to him.’ But when the documents were published in several Nigerian newspapers, he refused to apologise and remained silent. He acted irresponsibly and unbefitting of a statesman,” Adoke said.
All Adoke seeks, he emphasized, is an apology from Obasanjo for what he described as the damage caused to his reputation.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
