Addressing the senior civil servants, Governor Mbah stressed that there would be no “honeymoon period” in their new roles. “I believe you worked very hard to reach this stage, and you went through a rigorous selection process. Your appointment is well deserved. But let me remind you, to whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.
The governor highlighted that only individuals with a strong sense of accountability, efficiency, and innovative thinking would thrive under his administration. He further explained that the appointments were merit-based, following a transparent and competitive process that prioritized equity and inclusiveness across the state’s civil service.
“These appointments were not merely to fill vacancies; they represent our dedication to fairness, inclusion, and excellence in public service,” Mbah added, noting that permanent secretaries serve as the “engine room of government” and custodians of institutional memory, playing a central role in implementing reforms across all sectors.
The 13 Permanent Secretaries sworn in are Chigbogu Nnaji, Phoebe Edeh, Philip Arum, Jeremiah Egbonwonu, Ifeoma Igwe, Ngozi Egbo, Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, Pamela Ikpa, Canice Ngene, Anyaora Okereke, Adaobi Nwodo, Ikechukwu Ezenwukwa, and Paul Nwabuisi.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Ikechukwu Ezenwukwa, who also serves as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, expressed gratitude to the governor for the trust placed in them. He pledged the appointees’ full commitment to enhancing the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development and revenue generation. “We assure you that you will not be disappointed in appointing us,” he affirmed.
